Description
The Baldrick 17 port pixel controller is high performance and good looking controller designed by iLightThat in the UK.
The Baldrick 17 can output up to 750 WS281x pixels @ 40fps per output. This allows a maximum of 12,750 pixels to be controlled.
The Baldrick 17 has 4 30amp power inputs (5-48v DC) as well as a single 10A input for pixel output 17 plus the board. The 4 30A rated inputs allows 7.5amp outputs across all 16 outputs that they power and the 5th power input allows output 17 to have the same rating.
3 user inputs with corresponding buttons to trigger remote webhooks and/or activate onboard functions (FPP actions etc)
CR2032 battery cradle so that onboard CunningFX playlists can be battery backed.
Fuse-good indicator lights for easy problem-finding
Wired 100Mb ethernet for minimal network delay and a second ethernet port to allow daisy chaining to downstream controllers.
Direct integration with xlights versions 2025.8 and later. (Vendor- iLightThat, Model- Baldrick17)
Conformal coating over front of the pcb to reduce the chance of damage from condensation or precipitation

The controller has it’s own firmware and doesn’t rely on a Raspberry Pi or Falcon Player (FPP) as the brains to run it. The controller can have data sent to it from a pc, laptop, a Raspberry Pi or other sources of DDP/E1.31/Artnet data.
The Baldrick 17 ready to run (Baldrick17-RTR) has the following
- Baldrick 17 output pixel controller
- 290 x 190 x 140 waterproof enclosure with mounting feet included
- 17 40cm pixel pigtails in either Xconnect or 13.5mm/Ray Wu style with cable numbers 1-17 on the pigtails. Pigtails grouped into 4’s (1-4, 5-8 etc)
- 2 waterproof bulkhead mount RJ45 connectors for the ethernet connection to Baldrick and looping out to another ethernet controller if desired/needed
- cable gland for installing the mains power cable through.
Power
- 2 by 12V 500W 240V waterproof power supplies. The power supplies are supplied screwed to the enclosure. With 1000W of 12V available it’s possible to directly power up to the full 12,750 seed pixels at 100% brightness, 2000 “regulator” pixels at 100% brightness (10,000 at 20%) or 5000 “resistor” pixels at 100% brightness (the full 12,750 at 30%). The actual number of pixels that can be powered depends on the specific pixel type and architecture. Check pixel supplier for pixel current or measure the current yourself.
On initial connection the board MUST be connected to a router to assign an IP address via DHCP each time until a static IP address is assigned. When connected to a router the board can be accessed via http://baldrickboard.local in a browser.
